About Regional Networks
A conference was held in 2004 where tenants and residents expressed a desire for better communication with the Scottish Government. At that time there was no practical, meaningful way for them to engage with the Government.
There are around 670 RTOs in Scotland, and over 90 representatives from RTOs were involved in formally establishing the nine regional networks.
Each network covers a number of local authority areas. The Scottish Government’s tenant participation team is supporting all of them.
All RTOs were invited to inaugural annual general meetings (AGMs) taking place in their region between January 2008 - May 2008. These AGMs were a key step in establishing the Regional Networks.
Committed to engagement
At the Regional Network event on 12 May 2009 Minister for Housing and Communities Alex Neil attended and was delighted to have the opportunity to meet with the Regional Network Committee members.
Mr Neil said 'We want to use your expertise and knowledge in shaping national policy to ensure that our public services are efficient and responsive to local needs. I want to see more involvement of RTOs, not just professional organisations'
