Message from the Chair
BEEM held a very successful 5th AGM in the Royal British Legion, Dalkeith.
Jim Maryniak, Chair of the elected committee, told the RTO members present that last year had been another busy year for Housing in Scotland and the Network committees. The Networks have made notable achievements over the past year and will continue to move forward and influence housing policy.
Keith Brown MSP, Minister for Housing and Transport, first met with the regional network committee members at the fourth regional event shortly after raking up his new post, and that he had pleasure of meeting him again at the chairs/secretaries meeting on 29 November 2011; Jim said’ it is very encouraging to note that the Minister, with his busy schedule, continues to meet with the Regional Networks and can discuss the impact of national housing policy at a local level and help shape national policies to be more efficient and that meet our needs at a local level. We have been operating now for 5 years and I feel made a great difference to the way the Scottish Government has developed national policy - and it is all for the better as a result of regional network representatives taking the time to be involved. It is important that tenants engage with their landlords to provide good quality services to their tenants’.
The committee wish to thank the British Legion for helping make the AGM such a success with the warm of the welcome and the delicious lunch. BEEM are looking forward to another busy year ahead and are discussing their responses already on the:
Scottish Government’s consultation on possible changes to the Right to Buy which runs until 30 August 2012; and the Scottish Housing Regulator consultation on how it plans to measure and report on progress being made by Councils and Housing Associations to meet the Scottish Social Housing Charter, and this which runs until the 24 August 2012.
