Region 2: Northern Lights
About Region 2
The Northern Lights Regional Network came into being in February of 2008 after four years of hard work by many people including tenants of the region.
Our Region covers:
- Aberdeen
- Aberdeenshire
- Angus
- Moray
- Orkney
- Shetland
At our first Annual General Meeting on 2 February 2008 our constitution was formally ratified.
We also have a communication strategy in place that helps to ensure that tenants are informed of what is happening and that their views are heard, as well as local authorities and housing associations.
We have eight members on our committee, with Eric Allan as our Chair, and Helen McPherson as our Secretary. Northern Lights committee meet once every two months.
Message from the Chair
The Network is now up and running and the committee is coming to terms with the task of building a process which will serve the Network efficiently and achieve the aspirations of all the members of the Network. We met with Stewart Maxwell, Minister for Communities and Sport, along with the other regional network members at the Firm Foundations event in Glasgow on 28 July 2008. During his address Mr Maxwell stressed that the Scottish Government want to use tenants' expertise and knowledge in shaping national policy and looked forward to working in Partnership.
We now have a new Minister in Alex Neil MSP, but I am happy to inform you that he is as committed as his predecessor in working in partnership with the regional networks and he has agreed to attend a meeting in Edinburgh on 12 May with all regional network committee members. There is always some trepidation when a new minister comes in post but with Alex Neil reaffirming the government's commitment to partnership working with the networks, we can now see a continuity in purpose and we can look forward to an enhanced role in the decision making process.
